Helluva Survivor is my debut EP and without a doubt the most personal project I have ever created.
Across seven tracks, this record tells the story of my journey -from coming out as a queer person, to leaving the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC) cult, to navigating mental health struggles, grief, loss and ultimately finding the strength to keep moving forward.
Music has always been my escape. I started writing songs as a young teenager, and some of the lyrics woven into this EP were first written during those years. Back then, songwriting was my way of making sense of a world that often felt isolating and overwhelming. Growing up in the PBCC cult, speaking openly about personal struggles could come with severe consequences, so music became the one place where I could be completely honest with myself and find solace.
Creating Helluva Survivor was never just about releasing music. The reason I wrote these songs, produced them and finally shared them with the world is because I know there are others who are facing similar battles. Whether you're questioning your identity, healing from religious trauma, struggling with your mental health or coping with the loss of someone you love, I hope this music reminds you that you are not alone.
More than anything, I want this project to offer courage, comfort, support and a sense of community. I want anyone going through their own difficult journey to know that they are a helluva survivor - just like I am.
The project also includes my very first music video for the third single, "Greedy For You." The video portrays queer love in its simplest and most honest form: as love. Nothing more and nothing less. Through this visual story, I wanted to show that queer relationships are no different from heterosexual relationships. We love, dream, celebrate, struggle and care for one another in exactly the same human ways. My hope is that the video opens hearts, challenges preconceptions, and helps people see our community for what it truly is -a community of people who simply want to love and be loved.
This EP was lovingly produced and mixed by Luca Bruegger and mastered by Oli Bösch. It also features the incredibly talented Loa Wild on the track "Die For You," a collaboration I'm deeply proud of.
As an independent artist, creating this record has been the biggest challenge I have faced in my life so far. There were moments when it seemed impossible, but it also became one of the most rewarding and beautiful experiences I've ever had. No matter what happens next, I will always be proud of what we created together.
